What’s new in the Project app?
New to discover:
- Adding a top bar
- Analytical improvements
- Improvements in the Gantt view
- Skills Integration
- Versions history
- Collaboration & Project Sharing
- But still...
Let's go!
1. Adding a top bar
One of the most important updates in version 18 of the project application is the addition of a top bar to facilitate navigation in project-related records (invoices, timesheets, ...). This new tool makes it easy to centralize information. You can also add custom filters
2. Analytical improvements
Odoo has worked on analytical parameters to allow better analysis of the data. These improvements include:
- Analytical account replaced by an analytical journal in projects, to allow companies to track their profitability at a more granular level (per team, ...)
- Overview of all stock movements related to the project
- Monitoring of the costs of materials used in projects
- Rebilling of materials used in purchase orders
- Link between projects and the Manufacturing application
3. Improvements in the Gantt view:
Navigation in the Gantt view has been significantly improved to optimize planning:
- Left/right arrows to move back/forward period
- Two new time scales: quarter, and custom
- Target today’s date
- Zoom magnifiers to change scale
- Enable a wide or condensed view (in wide view, possibility to hide or show the lines with the two buttons on the right)
- Barre de défilement en-bas de la page pour défiler facilement dans la période
Also, task planning is now more intuitive:
- Ability to automatically schedule one or more tasks (calculated based on deadlines, time required for each task and employee leave).
- Allocated hours displayed directly in the progress bar of the Gantt view for better tracking of employee workload and avoiding conflicts
- More effective conflict resolution with arrows showing the interdependencies between tasks and identifying existing conflicts (yellow arrows)
4. Skills integration
The Skills feature is now available directly in the Gantt view for task assignment: via filter search, possibility to search a specific skill to display relevant employees and thus assign a task (via drag & drop) to the one you choose. Convenient if you need a Spanish-speaking employee or development expert for your task, without having to go back to the Employees app to identify relevant employees.
5. Version history
No more problems when a colleague inadvertently changes a description! Access to the edit history for task descriptions is now available via the Action button.
6. Collaboration & project sharing
- When working together on the same task, real-time view of changes to the description and who made those changes
- New colour code in the menu " All timesheets " to have an overview of employee workload (green = balanced workload, orange = overtime, red = not enough time sheets recorded)
- Ability to give external users, such as subcontractors, read or edit access to all or only the tasks in a project they are following.
7. But still...
Other little extras have been added, always with the aim of saving time on a daily basis:
- No need to set up a service in advance for a project to be created automatically at the time of order. In case of error/omission in the product configuration, once the quote is confirmed, click on 'Create a project' in the actions. A window opens to encode the name of the new project.
- It is now possible to create a new subtask directly from the Kanban view of a project
- It is also possible to display a sub-task directly in the project pipeline

Odoo version 18 brings powerful tools to improve the management of your projects. By integrating these new features, you can not only ensure better planning and more effective follow-up, but also optimize collaboration within your team.
